Ferrari PTU Repair Kit

The factory shift forks in the Ferrari PTU are secured by a small snap ring. That snap ring does not evenly distribute locking pressure along its outer edge. Because of this design limitation, the shift fork bushing has free play. During shifts, the bushing collides with the snap ring repeatedly. Over time, that repeated impact causes the snap ring to break. When the snap ring breaks, the bushing twists. Fluid then leaks past it. Since this failure is mechanical and progressive, it will worsen with every shift cycle. Waiting to address it leads to fluid loss, ATF Low warning lights, and eventual PTU damage. Because the kit targets the root cause rather than the symptom, it delivers a lasting repair that the factory design cannot.

The bushings in this kit are identical to the original Ferrari bushings in every dimension. The only difference is a thicker face. Since the thicker face fills the gap between the bushing and the snap ring, the collision that causes snap ring failure no longer occurs. While the factory bushing allows the impact to build up over thousands of shift cycles, this upgraded bushing stops it entirely from the first shift after installation.

Because the bushing geometry is otherwise unchanged, installation follows the same procedure as the factory component. The upgraded bushing fits directly in place of the original with no modifications to the PTU housing or shift fork assembly.

This kit includes all necessary seals and gaskets for the PTU. The only seals not included are the Teflon clutch actuator face seals. Since those seals are highly durable and have not failed in any unit Hollywood Mechanic has serviced. They do not require replacement as part of this repair.
