So you just landed in Los Angeles at LAX and you want to jump in a Lamborghini. Plenty of them around, so why not? Maybe you want to just catch a ride with a star you ran into on the Walk of Fame? or maybe you have saved up to make a dream come true with a day rental? or maybe you got it like that and just drop by the dealer to pick up your own?
So now you’re in your Lambo, in the crazy streets of LA. Sound stressful? Weren’t expecting that were you? Your eyes are everywhere: Is that parallel parked car about to pullout? Can I pass this dude who you can see in his mirror with his head down checking his phone? Whoa, that bike just came out of no where! Is it legal to split lanes like that? (It is in LA, called Lane Sharing) And just when you thought you had it down, BOOM, pothole you didn’t see coming. Yeah, cruising Santa Monica isn’t a trip to the beach, as they say.
Essential Driving Skills
Well, I’m going to give you a piece of advice that is sure to save you $$$ and maybe a life. This is something they won’t tell you at Lamborghini of Beverly Hills Service, either. And even if you can’t use it, try offering it to the next person you see getting into a Lambo, and you might just win yourself a ride by sharing the info.
Lambo Blind Spot Trick
Eliminate your blind spot by setting up your mirrors to cover the area those massive B pillars block. Look, the rear view mirror is called that because it is the mirror that shows you what’s behind you. So why do you also point your side mirrors behind you? You can always just look at the rear view mirror. What if you pointed the side mirrors at the side? OMG that’s crazy!
Here is how you do it. Pull into an empty part of a parking lot. Sit squarely in your driver seat. Now lean to the left, not forward or back, until your head is against the driver door glass. Now adjust the driver side mirror until you have the side of the car in the inside 1/4 of the mirror. Now lean to the right and align your head with the center of the windshield (the REAR VIEW mirror should be a good reference point). Now aim the passenger side mirror to have 1/4 of it filled with the right side of the car.
To test your set up, have a friend (or Lambo enthusiast, they are everywhere) walk around the car as you sit inside. You should see them transition from your peripheral view into the side mirror, then to the rear view, to the other side mirror and back to your peripheral with no gaps. There should be a moment where they are in both the side mirror and the edge of the rear view. Now you’re basically set. It takes some getting used to, but I promise, you’ll never look at your left or right mirror before a lane change and NOT see what is there.
WARNING:
An over the shoulder is recommended anyway, per the law and always be attentive to location of other cars and their movements. A car in the second lane over may not be visible and if he tries to race up to you and you both move into the lane between you at the same time, there is a possibility you could miss it, but good use of turn signals usually ensures safe transitions.
